Beauty Woven into Every Detail
Master Artisan of Dantsu Weaving
Prologue
What defines a truly comfortable ride? Is it the suspension? Or the seat? For Century, the answer begins beneath your feet. There, a richly crafted floor mat welcomes its owner. Behind that quiet elegance are the master artisans of Tango Dantsu, whose handwoven carpets have adorned Japan's most iconic buildings and countless historic scenes. The weaving technique itself is not what makes it exceptional. Yet somehow, these master artisans create something unmistakably different. The answer lies in the aesthetic of shitsurai—the thoughtful arrangement of every detail.
Chapter 1 Omotenashi Beneath Your Feet 5,600 Tufts of Silence
That quiet comfort underfoot is born from the hands of master artisans. Using a hand-tufting technique, each strand is individually inserted from the reverse side of the backing fabric with a pistol-shaped tufting tool. While a typical luxury carpet contains approximately 4,200 tufts within a 30 cm × 30 cm section, the carpet crafted for Century contains as many as 5,600. It holds far more than thread alone. It is the culmination of meticulous craftsmanship, expressed through exceptional density and remarkable precision.
Within the richly crafted mat lie thousands of densely packed strands. Each one helps absorb noise from the road beneath, creating the quiet that is an essential part of the Century experience.
Chapter 2 Mastery Revealed in Simplicity
What appears at first glance to be a simple, unadorned design showcases craftsmanship cultivated by the master artisans of Tango Dantsu over many years.
In a world without patterns, even the slightest irregularity becomes a flaw that diminishes its beauty. Every tuft must be inserted with identical force and size, and with unwavering precision. Every apprentice repeats the process countless times until it becomes second nature.
Simplicity beyond trends. The dignity of master craftsmanship quietly reveals itself on its serene, unadorned surface.
Chapter 3 Passion Woven into Unparalleled Color and Elegance
“We believed we had to bring the same dedication as the master artisans behind every other part of the vehicle.” That same spirit extends to the dyeing of every thread.
The designers sought a color in perfect harmony with the Century interior. Working with yarn manufacturers, the artisans sometimes evaluated as many as ten dye samples for a single color.
Amid the subtlest differences in brightness and saturation, they found a truly One of One color. Its quiet elegance speaks for itself. That understated hue reflects the master artisans' unwavering devotion to craftsmanship.
Chapter 4 Where Hands and Machines Unite, the Warmth of Craftsmanship
“We are not bound to doing everything by hand,” say the master artisans. Entrusting work to machines is part of the craft's evolution.
It is also the wisdom that preserves and passes on what only human hands can achieve. They believe,“Whether by hand or by machine, what ultimately defines true quality is a master artisan’s dedication.” One day, a global leader may step onto this very mat. From that sense of pride comes the passion that gives craftsmanship its dignity.
What should remain in human hands, and what should be entrusted to machines? Knowing that balance, the master artisans carry the spirit of craftsmanship into the future.
